Halifax Council approves proposed Mill Cove Library

Great news for Bedford South and area as Halifax Regional Council unanimously approved a new library on Bedford waterfront and has asked staff to begin the planning and budgeting process for the 21,000 square foot library in the new proposed Mill Cove Ferry Terminal.

The proposed ferry terminal was originally announced in 2021 when I was first running to be your MLA and was expected to be up and running in three years, but that timeline was put on hold. The terminal is now expected to be running by 2027.

This has been a project I have been supporting and working on to make it a reality since day one. I would like to thank District 16 Councillor Tim Outhit, who has been asking for a new library in the area since 1996, for all his thoughtful hard work on this and many other important issues in our area.

The building is anticipated to be two stories and allow access from transit routes, vehicles or mobility trails and would have an open seated area as well as a performance space.

While we still must wait for the proposed ferry terminal to receive federal government approval, this vote from HRM is very exciting news and moves the project along to becoming more of a reality.
