Review of Intimate Images and Cyber-protection Act complete

The McNeil government passed the Intimate Images and Cyber-protection Act in 2017, and the law came into effect in 2018. The bill was passed after a previous bill (the Cyber-safety Act of 2013) was found to be unconstitutional.

Earlier this year, the Nova Scotia government completed a mandated review of the 2018 bill. The review determined the Intimate Images and Cyber-protection Act is achieving its goals of protecting citizens from cyberbullying and the sharing of intimate images without permission. At the same time, though, the review found government needs to improve the complaint process for victims and raise public awareness of the law.
